The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) has assumed the responsibilities of the Federal Highway Administration underSection 326 of amended Chapter 3 of Title 23, United States Code (23 U.S.C.326), and is soliciting comments and information on a proposal to upgrade and install an over-height vehicle warning system on Glenn Highway approaches to the Eklutna Overpass Bridge in Eklutna, Alaska. The purpose of the project isto improve corridor safety and reduce bridge maintenance and repair costs caused by over-height load strikes.
The proposed work could include the following:
Install, upgrade, or replace approach signs and bridge delineation assemblies
Install, upgrade, or replace overhead sign structures and bridge delineation/markings
Install or replace guardrail and guardrail end treatments
Install upgraded northbound and southbound over-height vehicle detection system (OVDS)
Trench to connect to existing electrical system
Install and upgrade conduits
Widen and stripe shoulders at overpass approaches
This proposed project will comply with Section 106 of the National HistoricPreservation Act; Executive Orders: 11990 (Wetlands Protection), 11988 (Floodplain Protection), 12898 (Environmental Justice); the Clean Air Act,Clean Water Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, and U.S. DOT Act Section4(f).
Construction for the proposed project is anticipated to begin in Summer 2016. To ensure that all possible factors are considered, please provide written comments to the following address by November 20, 2014.
