The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) is preparing a draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for the proposed in-state natural gas transportation project known as the Alaska Stand Alone Pipeline (ASAP). The Alaska Gasline Development Corporation is the project’s sponsor.
A Public Scoping Meeting will be held on October 2nd at the Inupiat Heritage Center, 5421 North Star Street, Barrow, Alaska, 99723. The meeting will begin at 5:30pm. The Barrow meeting was originally scheduled to be held on September 17th, however it was rescheduled to the current date as posted.
The full schedule of scoping meetings was previously noticed on August 14th.
Public scoping is the initial phase of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process and provides an opportunity to engage the public, to solicit input from interested and affected stakeholders, and to identify the range of issues to be addressed in the SEIS.
The SEIS will focus on project design changes that were proposed after the Final Environmental Impact Statement was published in October 2012. In support of the SEIS process, a revised ASAP Plan of Development has been published and is available on the project website at: http://asapgas.agdc.us/documents.html.
The Corps welcomes public comments regarding potential impacts associated with the project's construction and operation, and to discuss alternatives. The 75-day scoping period runs through October 14th.
